Dear Colleagues:

The Global Communities Operating Board (GCOB) met in St. Louis this past
weekend. There has been some interesting progress in the District to
report to you about. Three quick thoughts.

1) During the reorganization a couple years ago, old Region 3 was split
up among three different Districts. Over the years these Sections had
developed a very good working relationship thanks to a strong Region 3
Operating Board. There was significant dissatisfaction with the split
up of the Region. A GCOB goal is for all Sections to do well and if it
helps to rearrange the borders of the Districts a bit to allow a
re-unification of the Sections coming from old Region 3 under one
District umbrella, it seemed a good thing to do. This means that three
great, active Southeast District Sections will now be assigned to
District A. We will be loosing Baltimore Section, Delaware Section and
the Delmarva Subsection, and the Washington DC Section.

2) There seems to be some confusion about what needs to be done prior to
the Leadership Training Conference (LTC) in Houston. Folks, you are
supposed to designate one Section member to represent the Section at the
LTC. Your representative will be covered by ASME for travel expenses
based on the usual expense report system. It does NOT come out of your
Section funds. For planning purposes and so that LTC detail information
can be sent out, you need to identify your designated representative.
If you want to send a second representative at Section expense, you can
do that to. In any case, you need to make all these folks known. A last
minute surprise just puts more pressure on all the volunteers that are
putting the Conference on. Some of you have already responded and I
thank you. Still, it is looking like I am going to be pretty lonely at
the special Southeast District get together planned for Friday night. So
designate your representatives and fill in the forms. If you
do not know where to reply to, just send the information to me. Check
out <http://www.asmeconferences.org/ltc07>

3) Web cast! Yes, you know I wanted to do this last fall but could not
get it organized. Southeast District Web cast 8:00pm EST February 28-
be there. The conference line is reserved. It will happen. Watch for
the details.

Best of luck as your program year moves ahead and for those of you close
to University of South Carolina and University of Florida, please
volunteer to help those Sections with the Student Professional
Development Conferences. It can be a lot of fun. I know I'm going.

Best Regards,

Richard
