This two-hour class features interactive discussion, a videotape presentation or role-play, and a focus on technical decisions that engineers must make in the workplace.

Instructor:

Andrew Taylor, P.E., is Chairman of the ASME Committee on Ethical Standards & Review, and has dealt with ethical dilemmas in the U.S. military and the commercial nuclear power industry for over twenty years. He began his career in the Navy as a division officer aboard USS JACKSONVILLE (SSN 699), a nuclear powered fast-attack submarine in the Atlantic Fleet. Taylor transferred to the Navy Reserve where he now holds the rank of Captain.  Since 1986, Taylor has been employed by Entergy Nuclear, Inc., the second-largest nuclear power operator in the United States.  He currently serves as a senior lead engineer in the License Renewal. Services Group at Arkansas Nuclear Station of Entergy.

As an instructor for Entergy, for ASME, and for the U.S. Navy since 1994, Taylor has conducted more than 100 training sessions in eleven different subjects for over 2000 students.  He has chaired technical sessions at ASME conferences in the U.S. and Europe.  He is the past Chairman of the Arkansas Section of ASME, the Mississippi Section of ASME, and the ASME Nuclear Plant Systems Committee, and past President of the Reserve Officers Association Department of Arkansas. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and an MS in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas. He serves on the Board of Directors for the ASME Center for Professional Development, Practice, and Ethics.

Since "Ethics" is specified by most licensing boards as a separate training requirement, a certificate of Continuing Education Units (CEU) will be available.  Attendees from both industries and academia are expected and will benefit from a good mixing of educational and technical experience provided by the conference.  See the web site for ECTC for more details.
