The
Conference Coordinating Committee along with the sponsors, in keeping with
ASME's mission of "promoting and enhancing the technical competency and
professional well-being of our members," has organized this conference
as a forum for enabling early-career engineers and graduate students to
develop their "technical
credentials"
and to establish their "professional identity."
This
program is designed to enhance the ability of graduate students and early-career
engineers to compete in an ever more demanding and changing global market place
by providing and developing such skills as verbal and written communication, teamwork
and independent decision-making, system-level and integrated thinking, and Interdisciplinary
skills, and the demonstrated technical performance that will make them standout
among their peers.
In providing
conferences such as this, The Conference organizers hope to establish a bond between
ASME and the early-career engineer that encourages continued participation in
ASME activities, increased use of ASME resources and programs, and reinforces
the concept of "ASME for a Lifetime."

engineering graduates who received their B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degree in
Mechanical Engineering or related fields between January 2003 and May 2008 can
submit papers in this category.
Category C - Early-Career Faculty Members
Early-Career faculty are also encouraged to
submit papers.

WHY SHOULD YOU PARTICIPATE
This event provides an opportunity to gain experience
that engineers need in today’s workplace to
set you apart from other engineers and enhance your career progression.
You will develop and refine your research and writing skills.
Learn how to better prepare a technical paper or presentation.
Learn multi-disciplinary knowledge from other presenters.
You will gain invaluable
experience by practicing your presentation skills in front of a small
and friendly audience. This will prepare young engineers to make successful presentations
at other conferences and industrial settings.
By authoring and presenting
a paper, you will be building your technical resume with a tangible
technical publication.
You will gain technical recognition
for yourself and your school or company.
You will meet and network with other early-career
engineers, faculty members, ASME senior members and leadership and learn more about the
profession.

REVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE
It
is the policy of the Conference Organizers and The American
Society of Mechanical Engineers to accept for publication
only original contributions to the engineering literature.
In most cases, this means that a paper should incorporate
substantial new information not previously published,
except it can be a part of on-going or completed research/thesis
work. Under certain circumstances, reviews or collations
or analyses of information previously published in scattered
form may be acceptable. Material that is not original must
be noted by footnotes
and/or bibliography.
Receipt
of a manuscript by a review committee does not constitute
acceptance for presentation and publication by the Journal
editor. All manuscripts and author-prepared papers accepted
are subject to editing.
APPROVALS AND CLEARANCE
It
is the author's responsibility to secure such company approvals
as may be required. Government clearance on Classified
material should be obtained where necessary. If approvals
or clearances are involved, the original manuscript should
note that these have been obtained. Material not approved
should be omitted from the manuscript.
